If there is God, why are there problems, trials, and heartaches in this world?

In the news in television, radios, newspaper, magazines and even in the social media, you will definitely espy accidents happening, the presence of poverty all over the world, drug addiction, different kinds of crimes, wars, calamities, broken families, early pregnancy. There will be a point in your life that you will deem why is really these things happening in our lives if there is a God whose superior of all, who can make things possible, who controls everything and a God who loves us so much. “If there is really a God, why are there problems, trials, heartaches in this world?” this is one of the major questions people ask.

According to 2 Timothy 3:1-7 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. It is clearly stated then that there are difficulties in this world because of our own actions. We always blame other people of our failure, difficulties, and anything bad that is happening to us, we even blame God, but before blaming other people, let us ask ourselves, “What have I done?” As Galatians 5:13-14 says you, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. It is clear that God gave us freedom so it is already on us if we choose to do the right thing or bad. So whatever happens in our lives it is because of our choices.

We are asking so many questions, “Why does accidents happen?” because we are so wreck less, we drive while drunk, we disobey rules, “Why is poverty still present in this world if we have a rich God?” because money is not all we need. Money, house, condominiums, cars all of it is temporary, instead of focusing on making money, aiming to be famous we should concentrate on seeking God and serving Him.

Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

“Why are there people addicted to drugs?” because they chose to be engulf by their problems thinking drugs are the solution. “Why are there people doing crimes?” because they cull to provide for their needs and their families even if what they’re doing is illegal than calling out to God. “Why are there wars?” because they chose to fight it out because of pride than to talk it out. “Why are there calamities?” because we are the ones who destroyed nature at the first place, rain, mountains, oceans, it is a blessing from God, but because we chose to cut trees, throw garbage everywhere, destroy it therefore, it can’t protect us anymore. “Why are there broken families?” because they didn’t fight for it, they didn’t let God be the center of their relationship therefore, there’s no peace at home, there’s no care nor love. The father/mother chose to cheat in their partners. The kids chose to disobey their parents. “Why are there early pregnancy?” because they chose to be engulf by temptation and do it in a wed lack. These are just some of the questions asked by people that we, ourselves can answer for our own but can’t just accept it.

If there is no problems, trials, sufferings in this world, will we see God? No. We will just be the own god of ourselves. Therefore, it is a great way of reminding us that there is a God who’s just waiting for you to come to Him and that you need Him and can’t do it on your own. Most importantly, there are sufferings, problems, trials because we failed to acknowledge God’s existence, we failed to seek Him, we failed to call out to Him. When is the last time you prayed? When is the last time you opened your Bible? God wants us to have peace, faithfulness, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, self-control and every good thing but we also have to do our part. All we have to do is first, to confess that indeed we are sinners and we can’t save ourselves, that we need Him Second, accept Him as our One and Only Savior and God, Lastly, obey Him, seek Him and live for Him.

Psalms 37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Let us remember that God wants the best for us. He wants us to be happy, to have peace and to have everything. God is offering us an Eternal life with Him, all we have to do is to accept Him and choose to follow Him.

If we have done it, everything will fall into place. That even though there will still problems, trials and sufferings that will come to our lives, we can overcome it because God is with us and He is on us.
